RG Albums Club #21
|
Ayo, its the only RG mod that’s actually active, yeesh. I got 4 albums to recommend for this week but you only have to listen to 3 of them like always.
Album #1: Digable Planets – Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space)
Genre: Jazz/alternative rap
Release Date: February 9, 1993
Run-time: 56 minutes (14 tracks)
Digable Planets is possibly one of the most underrated rap groups OAT, mainly because they were overshadowed by their more popular contemporaries like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. But Reachin clearly shows that they could provide something new to the 90s jazz rap scene; Ishmael Butter, Ladybug Mecca, and Doodlebug each come through with thought-provoking but also playful and abstract lyrics and they each have some great chemistry with each other. Essentially a great album if you’re looking for some relaxing jazz vibes but also craving some mental stimulation.
Album #2: Bill Withers – Just As I Am
Genre: Soul
Release Date: May 1971
Run-time: 36 minutes (12 tracks)
